Incredibly hand crafted in six-board construction, of enormous, single boards, this flat-top trunk sits atop sled feet. It features wonderfully wrought iron straps with scalloped edges and embossed flowerette decoration. The swing bails on the sides were fashioned with twisted bar stock. The central strap is cut with the initials AMRP, a keyhole, and the date: 1788. This is quite an extraordinary piece and would make a wonderful coffee table.
