James & Ralph Clews (Cobridge, Staffordshire, 1818-34)
Impressed: Clews Warranted Staffordshire. The large, deep saucer and the straight-sided, tapered cup display the deepest blue transfer pattern, depicting a young girl and her dog at a well in the countryside. The border is one of flowers and scrolls, so favored by Ralph and James Clews. The charm of these pieces lies in the quirky, imperfect application of the transfer on the cup.
