Made for the American market, beginning in the late 1820s, in response to the popularity of the Imari palatte of cobalt, burn red and gold, Gaudy Welsh was very collectible then, as it is now. This tea cup and saucer make a nice example of that genre. No maker's mark. Saucer numbered 253.
