Designed as an elaborate palanquin, or carrier, this small platform was meant to be carried in the religious pilgrimages in India, often bearing the "footsteps" of the saints. This one is oval in shape, with twelve, faceted sides. Retaining most of the original red painted finish, it displays extensive brass banding and overlay and rests atop paw-carved feet. In the Western home, it makes a perfect pet bed.
