(Item: W1521)
The cross of this piece is a later replacement of the original. The corpus was hand carved by a skilled, if provincial, artist, displaying great sensitivity and emotion. The expression on the face of the Christo is especially well-executed, giving us a sense of serenity as well as agony. The artistic rendering of the body adds much to the overall depiction. Note the early burn on one knee.
