Hester Bateman (1708-1794), London. A lovely example of the coveted work of Hester Bateman, the most famous female English Georgian silversmith, this small pair of tongs were executed in the simplest of forms, with a fine border of minute beading and a single string lineation. At the top is the monogram: AT and the date 1850, denoting it a presentation piece. Marks: Sovereign's head, lion passant and HB. No date mark.
