(Item: D1438)
From Malabar, in southwest India, this box was hand crafted in a form traditional to that area. It features a tall, hinged lid in the form of a pyramid. The piece is extensively banded with decoratively cut brass; covering all joined corners and edges, with a swing handle at the top and a large hasp and interesing lock. It opens to reveal a small separate compartment. Notice the old, red paint with traces of design throughout.
