This wonderful and curious piece is of the simplest form. It is a balancing scale with a weighted ball at one end and hand forged iron hanging hook at the other. The ball bears a hand carved design of Swedish crowns and the date: 1796. The stick is notched for measurement and it retains the original birch handle. Notice the beautiful, rich patina. It very likely was used to weigh game. Today it is a wonderful object of interest.
