French Oak Champagne Riddling Rack / Pupitre
(Item: D1959)
Invented by Clicquot, these a-frame racks known as "pupitre" or pulpits are used in the champagne making process. After aging for one and a half to three years, the sediment must be collected for removal. This process, called riddling or remuage in French, involves rotating each bottle a small amount each day and gradually moved so that the sediment collects in the neck. The cellarman or remeur may hand rotate up to 17,000 bottles per day. This 60-bottle rack would make a wonderful display of wine bottles in a modern home.
