By Eutrope Bouret, a reknown and much sought-after 19th century sculptor (French, 1833-1906), this female nude is depicted grasping a garment to her breast, on a naturalistic base, displaying a plate with title, "Surprise", and "Exp. on Des Beaux-Arts". Signed: "Bouret" with two foundry stamps including "Pinedo, Paris, Boule. du Temple 40" and "Bronze Garanti Au Titre, Paris". Two stamped Rs, "Exp.on. Des Beaux-Arts" on base plate. The piece exhibits a brown to gold patina. The Temple address indicates that this piece was founded after 1880.
