Attributed to Nias, West Sumatra, this primitive carving depicts a deceased person (the bare headed figure) being transported by the gods, via dugout canoe, that displays a carved dragon on the back. Note the interesting details of the elaborate headdresses and jewelry on the gods. The piece shows wear to the black, painted surface, typical of old, tribal art.
