Signed: CH. Cordier, in the lower righthand corner, this oil on canvas is by the 19th century French artist, Charles Pierre-Modeste Cordier(1848-1909). Best known for his landscapes, this is a rare work, in true Orientalist Aesthetic tradition. It depicts a sultry, lounging odalisque, sabre in hand. In excellent condition, it is housed in a lovely gilt frame, with egg-and-dart, reeded and foliate borders .
