Chinese Shanxi Province Architectural Stone Foo Dog Base

Ref: AR3854

This hand carved plinth, or platform, was fashioned as a base for a foo dog or lion figure, usually at the sides of doorways to guard from evil spirits. The round top rests on a square base which features foo dogs at the corners; the whole, beautifully carved with incised designs. It could be used in many ways in the western home.
