Signed (lower right): Grant Wood. Sultry Night was considered so controversial because of the nudity that the postmaster refused to send the prints. As a result only 100 copies were produced and sold at the gallery of the AAA. Grant Wood was born in Iowa and is best known for his images of the American Midwest especially his best known work, the iconic painting American Gothic. Style: Regionalism.
