A small 19th century, Grand Tour stone statue, modelled after a Roman 2nd century A.D. marble sculpture of seated Molossian hound dog on a canted corner plinth. The Roman statue was copied originally after an Hellenistic bronze. It is named Jennings for one the prior owners of sculpture, Henry Constantine Jennings in the 18th century. It is also known as Duncombe's dog or the Dog of Alcibiades.
