Rare Portuguese Baroque Tin Glazed Pottery Architectural Azulejo Tile

DETAILS
An antique thick, tin glazed (majolica or faience type) tile salvaged from a Portuguese Baroque period tiled architectural wall mural. Several tiles are available from this mural, each with one of a kind, hand painted decoration in cobalt blue and manganese. Azulejos are hand colored, tin-glazed ceramic tiles found traditionally on the exterior and interior of buildings in Spain and Portugal and date back as early as the 13th century. Blue and white tiles were favored in the 17th century to emulate the style of Chinese Export and Delft ceramics.
