Vintage English Royal Doulton Porcelain Charles Dickens Sairey Gamp D5528 Character Jug

DETAILS
Sairey Gamp was the gossiping, gin-drinking midwife and nurse from Charles Dickens' novel The Life and Adventures of Martin Chuzzlewit. Impressed (back of neck): Sairey Gamp.
Originally designed in the potteries of Staffordshire England in the 1760s, Toby Jugs (Fillpots or Philpots) are modelled as seated or standing figures, typically jovial and intoxicated holding a beer, with a tricorn hat forming the spout and a handle on the back. Often these jugs take the form of popular historical or fictional characters. Figural jugs modelled with only the head and shoulders are referred to as Character or Face Jugs.
