Large Vintage English Royal Doulton Porcelain Old Charley D5420 Character Jug

DETAILS
This vintage Character Jug is modelled as the rosy face of an old man known as Old Charley who represents an English night watchmen from the mid 17th century. These watchmen were replaced by modern day policeman in the 19th century. With brown hat, dark green coat, and polka-dot bow tie. Impressed (back): Old Charley.
Originally designed in the potteries of Staffordshire England in the 1760s, Toby Jugs (Fillpots or Philpots) are modelled as seated or standing figures, typically jovial and intoxicated holding a beer, with a tricorn hat forming the spout and a handle on the back. These jugs also take the form of popular historical or fictional characters. Figural jugs modelled with only the head and shoulders are referred to as Character or Face Jugs.
