English Laburnum Oyster Veneer Octagonal Pedestal Tilt-top Side Table

DETAILS
This antique English side or center table features beautifully handcrafted, detailed oyster veneer and marquetry inlay on all surfaces. The octagonal top is raised on a pedestal stem and three tripod legs with scrolled foot. Oystering is a wood working technique where thin cross section slices of wood branches are used resulting in a distinctive oval or circular patterned veneer which resembles oyster shells. The technique was likely developed in England in the 1660s.
