This beautiful surround was hand fashioned of a very unusual marble; having rust-red and white striation on a mottled olive-gray ground. A simple mantel with ovolu edge surmounts a straight apron with deeply incised paneling, flanked by incised blocks. The scrolled uprights feature a large acanthus leaf on each knee and griffe de lion feet, terminating on straight plinths.
