An antique, 19th century, neoclassical, colored bas-relief wax portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821). The bust shows Napoleon in side profile wearing a classical Roman style, laurel wreath crown. Napoleon was known to admire and emulate Julius Caesar. It is labeled Napoleon Bonaparte. It is mounted in a period, ebonized, reeded frame. Miniature bas-relief portraits such as this were very popular from the late 18th century to 1840s, when they were replaced by photography portraiture.
