Each tin is painted in the Chinese taste. A pair of English, 19th century japanned tole tea canisters of cylindrical form, with orange-red and gilt decoration. The domed tops retaining their original lids, and the fronts each with a different Chinese scene of figures in a landscape. One marked E and one marked A in a painted cartouche. These large canisters would have been used in a British tea shop.
