Coal scuttles or hod bins were placed near the stove and held a small amount of coal for topping off the fire. This example has a slant front and is hinged lid decorated with incised border and decorative brass corner mounts and opens with a turned knob with brass flower head mount. The top of the hod bin has a turned wooden carrying handle and the interior is lined with metal.
