This antique, English 18th century, case is an unusual form of enamelware used to store sewing needles (bodkin) or a secret love letter (billet-doux). The cylindrical case with a fitted lid, all decorated with pastoral scenes in cartouche reserves, on a blue ground with raised enamel diaper decoration and floral motifs.
