This antique Indian lamp probably originates from Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu and was designed for use in a home shrine or Hindu temple. This type of oil lamp is cast with the auspicious female figure of Deepalakshmi and is typically small in scale with one wick. It is also associated with the Diwali festival of light. It has a shaped backplate with Deepalakshmi seated cross legged above a small oil well.
