South Indian Mughal Bronze Chambu Water Jar

Ref: M2251
Used by pilgrims to carry sacred water from the Ganges, this chambu vessel is of typical form with a short flaring neck on a squat, undecorated, spherical body and raised on a high, spreading foot. Unusual to find, this example retains its finial stopper, which typically would be tied to the neck for the trip home.
