The traditional Mei Ping (plum vase) is considered a feminine shape, with a small, delicate neck leading to a broad shoulder and tapering to a narrow foot. With its narrow mouth, it is believed it was designed to hold a single, plum blossom branch. This example is finished with a classic dark brown/black monochrome glaze falling short of the foot to reveal the stoneware beneath.
