This is a vintage etching plate of the Colorado Opera House in the old mining town of Central City, Colorado. It is an original etching plate from the artist's estate and has been varnished so it can not be used in the printing process again. Framed.
Originally from Illinois, in 1922 Byxbe began making annual summer trips to Estes Park, Colorado. In 1930, he established a studio there, selling etchings of landscapes and resident's cabins for Christmas cards. He achieved national success for his work and had a one man show at the Smithsonian (1937-38). In the late 1930s he moved permanently to Estes Park. He was a member of the Chicago Society of Etchers.
