An antique papier-mache snuff box of round form. The lid is decorated with a young lady with a swan, representing the story of Leda and the Swan from Greek mythology. The scene captures the god Zeus, in the form of a swan, seducing Leda, a Spartan queen. A Brunswick (Braunschweig) or Stobwasser type box. In the manner of the Stobwasser Factory (Braunschweig, Germany, 1772-1829).
