Paul Kauvar Smith (American, 1893-1977). Paul Kauvar Smith was born in Missouri and studied commercial art at the St. Louis School of Fine Arts (1915-16) and after the war he continued his studies at the Washington University (St. Louis, MI). In 1921 he moved to Denver and was taught by artist John Edward Thompson, who was credited for bringing modernism to Denver. Smith's work is in many public collections including the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Denver Art Museum. The artist is known for mining town scenes, still lives and abstracts.
