After the antique, this painting is a portrait of a girl originally from a fresco from Pompeii (Circa 55-79 A.D.). She is thought to be a portrait of the poetess Sappho (Greek, 6th century B.C.). She holds wax tablets and looks thoughtfully at the viewer with a stylus against her lips.
