The Boettcher Mansion is located at East 8th Avenue, and has been the residence to Colorado's sitting governor since Mrs. Claude Boettcher bequeathed it to the State of Colorado in 1959. Built in the Georgian Revival style, the mansion was originally owned by Alice Cheesman, widow of Denver business tycoon Walter Cheesman. Claude K. Boettcher purchased the home in 1923, and it remained a private residence of the family for 35 years.

The Boettchers were one of Colorado's most prominent families, building a fortune from the success of their hardware business to include such businesses as the Great Western Sugar, the Brown Palace Hotel, Ideal Cement, and the Denver Tramway Company. Their legacy of philanthropic work continues today through the Boettcher Foundation.
