Chatsworth, Derbyshire, England
Built 1553
Chatsworth House is one of England's most famous stately homes; the seat of the Duke of Devonshire, and has been home to his family, the Cavendish family, since Bess of Hardwick settled at Chatsworth in 1549. The Devonshire family has an illustrious history with some of the greatest British estates having been in their possession including Chiswick House, Bolton Abbey, Compton Place, Hardwick Hall, Holker Hall, Lismore Castle and Devonshire House. Devonshire House, their palatial London residence, was for centuries the center of London's social, political and cultural elite. Before it was demolished many of the architectural fittings were catalogued and moved to Chatsworth.
