This exterior, architectural cornice fragment shows a blend of Elmslie's Louis Sullivan training with organic, foliate ornamentation and Art Deco geometry. This example is covered in a buff yellow slip and shows Elmslie's signature flying V motif. Elmslie also worked with Prairie School architect, Frank Lloyd Wright.

PROVENANCE
Facade of the Oliver P. Morton School (7040 Marshall Avenue, Hammond, ID, 1936-91). George Elmslie joined the architectural firm of William Hutton to design the Morton School and other academic institutions in the 1930s. These ornaments were designed by Elmslie and modeled by Fritz Albert at the Northwestern Terra Cotta company.
