Two illustrated pages from the book: The Psalm Book of Charles Knowles. Together with the hardcover book. One page is illustrated with a fruit tree and leaves. The second page has the written Psalm passage. The book was designed by Charles Knowles, with an introduction by Philip Hofer and forward by Katharine Kuh. 2nd Printing. Publisher: The Viking Press, Inc.
Charles Knowles attended the Putney School of Vermont, where as a young man he created this Psalm book to illustrate eight Psalms, that feature hand pressed, wood engravings to illustrate each passage. Originally it was printed as an edition of 10 signed, numbered copies on a hand press. Sadly, less than a year later, at the age of 18, the artist died.
