Valleja (Wally) Strautin (American, 1898-1995). Strautin studied painting at the Cooper Union School of Art in New York, where she graduated in 1931. She was influenced by modernist artists such as Lee Krasner and Jackson Pollock, who were her neighbors in Greenwich Village. She produced portraits, landscapes, murals, textiles and geometric-based abstract paintings. She exhibited her work with New York’s Society of Independent Artists between 1929 and 1944 and was a member of the Union of American Artists.
