German Westerwald Salt Glazed Stoneware and Pewter Sternkanne Jug

DETAILS
The antique, Westerwald Sternkanne (Star jug) is modelled with an ovoid body and a tall, narrow neck with a mascaroon (mask). It is decorated with a star motif with cobalt blue and manganese glazes on a grey ground. The loop handle has a curled tail and part of pewter mount.

Westerwald pottery is a salt glazed, grey stoneware made in the Höhr-Grenzhausen and Ransbach-Baumbach area of Westerwaldkreis in Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany. The decoration is traditionally cobalt blue.
